Shooting for Effect

I have no problem with guns.  I just object to anyone in government having access to guns.  Nongovernmental types who have guns please me, especially when they are very skilled shooters.

Happy Halloween!

Elections and Dead Ambassadors and Soldiers

Here is a interesting article laying out at least two instances in which USA diplomats and soldiers died as politicians played at politics.

I played a but as a Ron Paul delegate and what I learned is the locus of violence in USA is the political parties.  All evil flows from there.

Guess Where This Is.

There are some beautiful places where I would like to practice aikido.  Of course, since aikido is a tolerant art it thrives in tolerant places.  Like here.

Here is practice shot.  And here is more.

Conscientious Objection and Cheese

I bought a $10 4 oz chunk of goat cheese at a San Mateo farmers market Saturday.  I asked if was raw milk cheese, and she said no way, not in California, it is pasteurized.  Sigh.  Even Washington state lets Goats milk go by raw.  She said "well, we could, but... regs, licensing, inspections..." and I don't doubt that.

I also do not doubt that last thing she would allow is any of her customers to get sick.  A friend pointed out that all of these e coli and other disasters come from big houses which cannot control, for sheer volume, for these things.  To do so effectively, the farm has to be small.

I have no science to back this up, but my sense is I eat better nutritionally, although consume less product, when I pay the extra for the better food.  Now, I read recently the science is the benefit claims of "organic" are bogus.  I don't doubt that, but the problem is the definition of "organic" not in the benefit of better food.

I too want to see small farms thrive.  But as Earl Butz said, the ag policy of USA is "get big or get out." And so it seems.  What to do?  States back off in the face of conscientious objection.  it is the state policies that are holding small ag back.  Wouldn't a conscientious objection movement in ag advance food freedom?

Azerbaijani Aikido

This is the sort of practice I recall and love.  It has been a long time since I have seen it.  It is explosive, and I used to be able to do maybe 10 minutes, now I bet no more than 2, but man do I miss it.

We used to do shiho-nage not with the uke's wrist against the uke's shoulder but pulled out and uke had to have the Tohei hop down to get over it.

Anyone in Seattle want to learn to practice like this?   Please?

I have to go to Azerbaijan to practice?

When Will Cheney Be Tried?

Given that Iraq had no connection with 9/11 and possessed no weapons of mass destruction, the Iraq war was a crime of aggression and – under the standards by which Nazi leaders were convicted by the Nuremberg Tribunal – the American leaders who lied us into that war are guilty of war crimes.
Benjamin Ferencz, a former chief prosecutor for the Nuremberg Trials, declared:
A prima facie case can be made that the United States is guilty of the supreme crime against humanity — that being an illegal war of aggression against a sovereign nation.

How a Conscientious Objector Stands

Have you noticed how people in power and those around them grab their peepees when they get together?

Never do this.  If you feel it is necessary then something is wrong.  You have some feral fear you are acting out, and you must conscientiously object to your own impulse.

If you must do something with your hands, you can cross your arms, but this is a challenge too.  Here are people doing it wrong:

Here is is done right, as a martial artist.  Note the hands are not trapped by the arms.  Each of these people can instantly launch a hand.

With one arm merely lying atop another, hand over elbow, and elbow over hand, and only the outer hand grasping an elbow, the outer hand can launch and strike immediately (see James Demile) and the inner arm can protect the lower body.

Best to just leave your hands at your side. But if you want to keep people wondering, keep one hand in a jacket pocket.

Or to be truly unnerving, keep one hand behind you.

Not sure why anyone would do this...

Wasserman Appears Truly Ignnorant

WE can assume that now that she knows, she will resign in horror at the war crimes her leader is committing.  Waiting... waiting...

O well.  As long as we get free stuff, who cares who dies.

Tablighi Jamaat

There is an islamic worldwide pacifist movement I had never heard of until I began studying Islamic Finance.  Of course they do not care to be "heard of" except among Moslems, but as far as Wikipedia reports, it is quite encouraging.

Yet, since it is Moslem, the powers that be assume it is evil automatically.  this from the Wikipedia site, after paragraphs of praise"

Although Tabligh Jamaat has claimed a pacific stance since its inception, after the 9/11 attacks in the USA, concerns have risen about its role as a springboard to terrorist organizations. It was cited on the cases of John Walker Lindh,[46] and dozens of the captives the USA holds in extrajudicial detention in its Guantanamo Bay detention camps, in Cuba, had their continued detention justified in part through their alleged association with the Tabligh Jamaat.
A report by International Crisis Group titled Islamist terrorism in the Sahel: Fact or Fiction?" described Tabligh Jamaat as "strictly non-political with a compromising outlook and attitude, and has never been linked directly to violence or actions which can be classified as being detrimental to imperial, western, colonial, capitalist, political, diplomatic and military interests ." and further explained that no interviewed source could identify an instance where Tabligh Jamaat members broke the law or engaged in specifically political activity in Mali, Niger, Chad and Mauritania.[47]
Also, some notable people hold opinions contrary to terrorism allegations.
"peaceful and apolitical preaching-to-the-people movement."[48]
Graham Fuller,  a former CIA official and an expert on Islam, (author of The Future of Political Islam)
"completely apolitical and law abiding."[49]
Olivier Roy,  a prominent authority on Islam at the French National Centre for Scientific Research
"an apolitical, quietist movement of internal grassroots missionary renewal"[6]
Barbara D. Metcalf, University of Michigan,  (While comparing its activities to the Alcoholics Anonymous for the efforts to reshape individual lives)

No doubt some of the people rotting in Gitmo are pacifists.  Or maybe no longer.

Counting Up the Terrorists

Prof. Rozeff runs the numbers on Moslem terrorism, and comes up short...

And then he runs the numbers on USA as the world's policeman and comes up short too....

USA is just not very good at this kind of work.  Time to quit and get back to what we are good at...

A Jew Explains the Palestinian Question

A son of Israeli general who was there through the formation of Israel explains the Palestinian question.  I don't care for his questioning Biblical scholarship at the beginning, but the rest is quite bracing.  Interesting take on the chances of an invasion of Iran.

Wait, what did he say?

Krauthammer on the assassination of the US Ambassador:

CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: It's beyond a disconnect, it is utterly damning. There are two scandals going on. The first is the coverup. We now know, and they knew earlier there was no mob, there was no demonstration, there was no incentive about the video. It was all a completely false story. This was simply an attack of our men who infiltrated and killed our people.

What?  Our men?  Killed our people?  Is this a gaffe?  See him say it here.  False flag?

Why Women In Combat?

Here is a 2 minute story on a air force fighter pilot, a woman.  If you do not ask the right question, it's unlikely you'll get the right answer.

Why would a woman want to be a fighter pilot?  All answers get down to this:

Because they want to, and discrimination on the basis of race, class or gender is wrong.

So let's break that down.  Answering "because they want to" in reply to "why do they want to" is a circular argument.    The answer must be more in depth than that, the meeting of some aspiration.  I think that is fair to assert:

1. I want to fly fantastic machines.

2. I want to defend our country.

3. I am good at it, and in a free country I should be allowed to do it.

All very good.  hang on to that...

Discrimination on the base of race or class is wrong because there is no human difference in race or class.  There are differences between male and female.  This point you can tell is important, because it is the point at which the fur flies among discussants.  The centers on whether any differences matter given the work at hand.  I would agree with those who claim as a practical matter, any male/female differences in performance can be managed away.

The flack covers the critical matter of difference.  Women can bear children, men cannot.

Given all this fighter pilot has accomplished, it is nothing compared to what she would have achieved raising a family.  Given all of the challenges she faced, even as a pioneer, those challenges are less than any she would have faced as wife and mother.

As a fighter pilot, she will have left absolutely no legacy, no trace of her having been here in life.  She will soon be forgotten.  Why would someone forgo all of that just to be a fighter pilot, or judge or fire fighter or any other job any man can do?

Why not do both?  Why give up half of your capability, again, when any man can do the job?

There is a reason why this is going on...  we live in an era when men have abandoned women and children in law and culture.  This is terrifying to women and kids.  The kids escape into video games and school-dispensed drugs, while the moms become cops, firefighter and fighter pilots, knowing full well, in a fight, the women are on their own in USA.

If it is unlikely your husband will protect you and your kids, because in law and culture this is frowned upon, then the balance is tilted toward no kids, and a violence based profession, so you can defend yourself.

We Are Different

When Germany occupied the Channel Islands in WWII, the British behaved like occupied peoples everywhere.  They obeyed orders and got rid of all of the Jews.

The legacy of the occupation is a tourist draw on the islands, and many people have fond memories to share.

We are not like them.  Are we?

Let's Attack Iran, Ha Ha Ha

Who is she talking about when she says an attack gives the regime more power, causes people to unify?
